Buyers Ed
Online Homebuyer and Landlord Education, testing & certification

Offer borrowers and prospects homebuyer and/or landlord education and certification with online training and testing, compliments of MGIC. Whether they're just considering buying a home or need to meet education requirements quickly in order to close, Buyers Ed delivers them to you educated, certified and ready for homeownership.

Registration:
Get started by registering for your Buyers Ed Code.
  • IMPORTANT: The e-mail address you register will become your Buyers Ed Code and must be unique to you. Do not use an e-mail address that others you work with might also use.
  • IMPORTANT: You only need to register one time. Your borrowers will register themselves for the Buyers Ed Test using your code.
  • IMPORTANT: It will take two business days for your code to be activated.
Tracking:
Give out your code to customers, instructing them that they'll need it when they register for the Buyers Ed Test. Download the Borrower Instruction sheet to give to customers you send to the website. The Homebuyer Education instruction sheet is available in English (.pdf) and Spanish (.pdf). The Landlord Education instruction sheet is available in English (.pdf).
  • IMPORTANT: Stress to your borrowers the importance of accurately entering your Buyers Ed Code so that their certification is delivered to you. Incorrect codes result in undeliverable certificates.
Tutorial:
Easy-to-understand tutorials, available in English or in Spanish, will guide your customers through the entire home-buying process. Homebuyer Education is available in English or in Spanish. Landlord Education is currently available only in English.
Testing:
The test is comprised of 18 multiple choice and true/false questions drawn from the Buyers Ed tutorial. It is not timed. Your borrower needs to correctly answer 14 of the 18 questions to earn a Certificate of Achievement.

The Homebuyer test is available in English and in Spanish. The Landlord test is currently available only in English.
Certification:
A Buyers Ed Certificate of Achievement in the language in which the test was taken will be e-mailed to you when your borrowers successfully complete the test. See sample certificates in English (.pdf) and in Spanish (.pdf) .

Include your Buyers Ed Code and the Buyers Ed web addresses — www.mgichome.com (English) and www.mgiccasa.com (Spanish) — in your advertising and on print material to hand out at homebuyer fairs.

For better tracking:
Once you've registered your e-mail address as your Buyers Ed Code, send a followup e-mail to borrowers you send to the program. That way they can copy and paste your e-mail address into the Buyers Ed Code field on the test registration form, ensuring its accuracy and that their certificate is delivered to you.
